An affair with B&W(film)
Friday, July 30th, 2010Last month during this portrait session with the lovely Hayley, I had a chance to try out my newly acquired film camera. Well the results are in and here they are.
side note*** Before you ask, those lines in the images are scratches on the negatives, scratches that were a result of me dumbly loading the film into the camera wrong. I guess it’s one of those things you have to do at least once when you are learning and I now know one more thing I will not do in the future :-/
I really enjoyed shooting film. I learned, like a lot of new photographer these days, on digital. I have always wanted to learn to shoot film and in some ways I have felt like I wasn’t a “real” photographer because of the fact I had never shot film. Like so many things in life, I put it off, I came up with excuses why not to do it, but when I saw that camera for sale I knew it was time….and now I’m in love!
This new love affair, I’m hoping, will open up new creative paths in my work. The new format of equipment will help me look at things differently. The fact that the film cost me money every time I press the shutter will force me to slow down and think more about my frames (which is always a good thing). So in a way, I am relearning photography and it’s always a blast when you are learning and trying new things.
Cheers!
