The iPhone Family

Yes, again with the iPhone…Sorry!

But seriously, you really don’t know how important it is to me to be able to just grab my phone and capture memories of my family as it grows in a fun a creative way.

Lately I have been playing with the iPhone app called Old Camera. I just love this app and I’m finding I’m using it more and more when I want a beat up looking black and white image. So I thought that I would show you some images today from my iPhone of the family using this great app.

Hope you enjoy, if you do or if you don’t, please let me know and leave a comment. I don’t push comments that much, but I think it’s time. I find a lot of people are afraid to leave comments good or bad because it’s like barging into someone’s front door or something, but hey….I’m leaving my front door wide open!

Kaily & TJ (Esession taken with an iPhone?)

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

OK, not really, I love my iPhone but I don’t love it that much!

Next year I will be shooting Kaily and TJ’s wedding and as it happens Kaily’s father and brother are good friends and co-workers on mine. TJ worked with us as well for a few years but has moved on to bigger and better things. Being the way things are, when Kaily’s father came up to me at work and told me that TJ was marrying his daughter and that I was going to be the photographer (not asking, stating a fact, he’s that kind of guy lol) I was fairly excited. You see, a night at their house is something to experience, image a 1950′s blues club in the middle of the Garden of Eden (Kaily’s father is quite the gardener) and you will get the picture. Any night there is a blast and I can’t wait to see what the wedding is going to be like. I have a strange feeling that after I’m done with my duties as a photographer, I won’t be allowed to leave without have a few (dozen) beers in me.

Kaily’s brother called me up yesterday afternoon and invited me over to watch UFC 100 and both TJ and Kaily were there. After the amazing spectacle that was UFC’s 100th Pay Per View I noticed Kaily and TJ foolin’ around on the couch across from me. I quickly grabbed my iPhone to nab some shots of this little moment. Afterward I showed them and jokingly stated “There, your engagement shots are done…bring on the wedding!”, I was surprised at how the shots turned out and that they even liked them. But after showing them around to everyone and seeing how much they all enjoyed them…I figured it would be fun to share them here.

*Please not…These are pictures taken on a iPhone by me after a few beers and in a very dark back room. They in now way represent the quality of my actual work. But if you have been visiting my blog long enough I really don’t have to tell you that now do I ;-)

Now I just can’t wait till the fall when I get to do the real engagement shoot! Classic cars, farms with barns and two great clients! This gonna be fun!!!

IMG_0484 One thing I love about the current line of smart phones like the iPhone, the HTC phones and Blackberrys is that it opens up a world of people to my blog and images.

Myself I keep up on all my blog reading on my iPhone, I’m not sure I could keep up with all the new blog posts from some of my favorite photographer if it wasn’t for my phone. But, this does bring up one pet peeve for me and that’s load time. I’m not sure about the rest of the smart phone offerings, but the iPhone has an annoying habit of giving up loading pictures if the site takes to long. There have been tons of time where a shooter posts about a wedding, I go to load it and only get about 25% of the images loaded.

Now I didn’t want anyone having to put up with that on my site, so I did a little research and found this cool little plug-in for WordPress that formats you website for mobile browsers make it load much faster. This doesn’t effect the site for people on computers, just those viewing on their phones.

If you run a blog and would like to look into this, I highly suggest you check out Brave New Code’s plugin called WPTouch. It is very easy to set up and customize, it even comes with a Photoshop template to make your own icons…How cool is that!
